LYRICS
Hi my name is _____
I’m just a young girl trying to make it in the world
I live with my mom and my little brother
And even though my life is good
I wish I had another
I wish I had a chance to change history
I wish I had a chance to be black in America and just be me
Yes, that’s right, I’m black
In fact, I’m a female too
So for me discrimination is times two
And I know some people think
“Who cares. I’m me, not you.”
But according to your status All Lives Matter
So care for me, would you?
Do you want to hear a story?
I’m a black female living in America, and I’m scared
But the fear that I hold cannot be compared
To the fear I share
For my sweet, innocent little brother
Or should I say
The black male wearing all black
The black male who looked like he was going to attack
Not only am I scared he will run into the police
But that they won’t understand his disability and shoot him for their own inner peace
I shouldn’t be scared, but I am
I’m scared he will be labeled as a criminal when really an innocent victim
I’m scared that the police will become so powerful there’s no way to contradict them
I’m scared that my brother will be labeled as a thug
But I’m more scared that institutional racism will never be debugged
