still the air to softness.
Slow the record to a stop.
Behind the window shades
are hidden the secret stars:
Flick on a lamp to cast light on the pages.
Swirl the words and chop them
as they tumble from your mouth.
Paint their picture line by line.
Take a good look at the
“Happily Ever After”:
Keep some of it for later. Then,
wait for falling sighs, and
slip out on your tiptoes.
Remember to turn off the light.
